Following conviction the offender was jailed for the maximum term available and the Chairman of the Magistrates sitting over the trial said
“You have caused offence to a large section of society. You are clearly aware of the law but you have shown a blatant and persistent disregard for the law.”
What exactly was this offence that warranted this harsh sentence, perhaps as a deterrant to others ? Perhaps the previous convictions and custodial sentences for like offences, perhaps that the offender had equipment used to comit these offences and detailed map locations of the offences
Was Offence was it that justified these ends ? Was it robberies, burglaries, serious assaults, selling drugs, etc etc etc. ? What about persistent anti-social behaviour, threats and intimidation of NHS staff ?
Gregory Wheal has an ‘addiction’ to colecting bird eggs and was convicted after peregrine falcon and raven eggs were found at his home. He apologised and pleaded guilty.
