  • About me.

I know enough to know that at 04.00am it gets dark out on the streets. It has done this for the last twenty odd years, to my knowledge and will probably continue for the forseeable future. At some stage in this ‘future’ I shall retire and probably won’t give a damn if it still gets dark at 04.00am. Until then I shall be out there, somewhere, lurking in the shadows because someone, somewhere will be doing stuff they shouldn’t and then, well then I will introduce myself. In the meanwhile I shall try to remain sane and remember why I joined in the first place and try to ignore all the people who piss me off by making the job more complicated than it should be.

Any opinions contained in posts are mine and mine alone. Many of them will not be those of any Police Force, Police Organisation or Police Service around this country. The opinions are based on many years of working within the field of practical operational Police work and reflect the desire to do things with the minimum of interference by way of duplication for the benefit of others who themselves do not do the same job. I recognise that we all perform a wide range of roles and this is essential to make the system work. If you don’t like what you see remember you are only one click on the mouse away from leaving. I accept no responsibility for the comments left by others.

A Strategic Community Diversity Partnership. We are cutting bureaucracy and reducing the recording of target and monitoring related statistics. Our senior leaders will drive small, economical cars from our fleet surplus to save money to invest in better equipment for our frontline response officers. We are investing money to reinstate station canteens for the benefits of those 24/7 response officers. We have a pursuit policy. The message is that if you commit an offence and use a vehicle, we will follow you and stop you if necessary. It is your duty to stop when the lights and sirens are on. We take account of the findings of the Force questionnaire and are reducing the administration and management levels and returning these officers to frontline response duties. We insist on a work-life balance. We have no political masters. We are implimenting selection processes that take account of an individuals skills and proven abilities for the job. Our senior leaders will have one foot in reality and still possess the operational Policing skills they have long forgotton about and seldom used. All ranks are Police Officers first and specialists second. We will impliment career development and performance evaluation monitoring of our leaders by those officers who operate under that leadership. The most important role is that of Constable. All other roles are there to positively support the role and the responsibility of Constable and the duties performed.

“We trained very hard, but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form up into teams we would be reorganised. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganising. It can be a wonderful method of creating the illusion of progress while creating confusion, inefficiency and demoralisation.”......Petronius
  • Just so.

Taxation is just a sophisticated way of demanding money with menaces.
  • Reality.

Only in our dreams are we free. The rest of the time we need wages.
  • Rank V’s Responsibility

Don't confuse your idea of how important you are with the responsibility of your role.
  • Meetings.

If you had to identify, in one word, why we will never achieve our full potential, Meetings would be that word.
  • There is always a bigger picture.

When there is no answer to your problem, there is always deflection from the need to justify giving an answer.

Police Pay……..BOHICA

There is no greater responsibility than that which you as police officers accept. And there is no greater obligation for us in government than to support you in discharging that duty”.
Gordon Brown, ACPO Conference 2007

Nice words from Gordon ‘forked tongue’ Brown. How hollow and meaningless these ‘words’ are.

Some may consider them to be a little untruthful.

A copy of a confidential letter from the Home secretary, Jacqui Smith to the Chanceller seeking to get our annual pay increase ratified from December 1st and not September 1st was sent to a newspaper and it seems that the support for the Police from the Government has just about gone with the priority seeming to be about targets and saving money.

Click on the link. Read the letter. See exactly how we are being shafted.

I think the term BOHICA may be about suitable.

  1. They are a bunch of lying devious low life rats. We should work to rule now!!

  2. what an absolute two-faced bitch! How would she like it? AND to have the brass-face to say the Govt would have the high moral ground? I bet the secretary who typed that fell off her chair laughing.

What about one of those petitions on the Govt website?

  3. ?????
NIce to know the government values us

  4. And the Scottish Executive certainly took away her ‘moral high ground’

I have always said that if you can show me a politician I will show you a liar.

  5. The current Government value nothing and no-one exept for themselves, their targets and statistics.

They deal in deceit and spin. They have no social conscience in regard to any one or any cause and seem intent on trying to cover up the lies and illegal acts they commit as though they are simply irrelevant and insignificant.

Of course they will say what a wonderful job they have done, how hard they are working for just about any cause you wish to mention and how much more money they have spent on just about everything.

One thing I believe, they spend more on promoting the brand but fail to ensure the brand is right in the first place. The costs always exceed the initial estimates because of the flaws that come to light when things get off the ground. Take the example of merging large Government Departments. Anything to save money and to claim it needs to be modernised or become more efficient. All for one purpose, to save money.

They also claim to have a duty to support every cause imaginable but fail to support the armed Forces and emergency services and the national musts of education and hospitals with monotonous and insulting regularity.

The desperate race to save money suggests that there is a bloody great financial hole that this Government has created that is going to come back and bite them in the arse some time soon. Add to this the list of cock ups they have tried to blame on someone else and it will only be a matter of time.

We have no industrial rights and are subject to control by people who have other things topping their own agendas. This will not change.

  6. That’s disgusting!! How do those kinds of people sleep at night? .Apparently they’ve been well sheltered from what’s out there in the world. They don’t know the safety, as they sleep at night, is due to individuals that work around the clock, cleaning up the city, towns and what have you. Patrolling in the dark, searching, arresting, booking…1st of all, you all deserve a better raise than that! Secondly, it most definitely should be retroactive. I understand low pay and right now, no contracts(I’m in that spot myself), but even we get retroactive pay when they finally give us some little crust. You all put your lives on the line every single day. The treatment is deplorable!

  7. 2.5% was pretty derisory, but the weasel way that they are trying to wriggle out of backdating it is scandalous.

Both sides agree to a process and then when those feckers do not like the numbers they renege on it.

And that bullshit in her letter about “the moral ground” – she would not recognise morals if they bit her on her ass, maybe your land shark could be persuaded to perform this task if she ever comes round your way.

  8. indeed it does sound like “Bend Over Here It Comes Again”, business as usual when dealing with politicians. i could wonder what they all would do if the police, the marines, the army and all the rest of us hired guns one day just walked off the job, leaving them to face their angry constituents all alone.
