PC Stephen Carroll made his final farewell to his wife Kate, this morning. He began his final journey from his home to St Therese’s Catholic church for the funeral mass.
PC Stephen Carroll, 48, who was gunned down in Craigavon, County Armagh, by the Continuity IRA on Monday night was an important man. More important than he could ever have guessed. For those who thought that the bullets had been taken out of the regional politics, think again.
To some, he was a target. An easy target.
To others, he was a husband, a friend, a colleague, a family member. Someone they wanted to see again.
Another valuable life taken by those who have no value for life amid their cowardly hatred and determined intent to cause misery and grief instead of helping to make the world a better place. Another valuable life taken by means that no one can justify and for reasons that simply do not exist. Some people are evil and will maim and murder, not for any justifiable reason but, simply because they enjoy what they do. They will claim a cause to try to give themselves justification. They do not have to clear a conscience they do not possess.
My deepest sympathies go to Kate, the families of Stephen and Kate and to all those who considered themselves friends.
The question will remain unanswered.
Why ?
How many more will suffer as a result ?

Utmost respect for the PSNI. Sympathies to the family on a tragic and unneccesary loss of life.
Braver by far than most. R.I.P.
Any person who volunteers to wear a uniform, to help those who cannot help themselves, to protect those who cannot protect themselves, to risk all for a stranger. Only the very worst of coward attacks such a person. The law should protect those that serve us. All the time, every time.
How many more, indeed?
As I am off Irish background, it is embarrassing to admit. But these ageing swag-bellied males (definitely NOT men) of ALL of the IRAs are nothing but a load of grunting hogs who divert themselves with each other in the loos of airliners on kiddieporn outings to Bangcock, when they aren’t busy killing folks at home. Scum. Period.
Pertinent that this excellent officer was a Catholic, isn’t it? Showing – if we needed showing – that this is not about Religion. It is sheer, unbridled murder. The murderers represent no-one.
I have total respect for the officers of the P.S.N.I.

Your post sums up what was going around my head when this tragedy and aftermath was played out on TV.
